In this image you can see the first 3D printed gun which the creator Cody Wilson has named "The liberator". Cody has developed this and argues that "the Liberator demonstrates governments' inability to enforce gun control", I find that his statement is very true although I do not agree with him releasing the blueprint to the public. As of now the blueprint is no longer distributed but people now know this is possible and it could cause the government to make a law against it. I find that just like any other contraband as seen a lot with drugs there always a market that will be created to distribute the product illegally.
All in all I think these 3D printed guns should be a bigger concern because considering they are made of plastic metal detectors would not detect that these guns are being smuggled. I also do find that these guns will prove points to many people that 3D printers aren't just a toy or a game it's a machine that can create destruction.

I read this post and i find that its really disappointing how an amazing invention that could help a lot of people is being used to make destructive weapons and other illegal objects. I agree that 3D printing should be limited in a way where people should not be able to print certain blueprints.
ReplyDeleteHey Brian, I really like the simplicity of your overall blog. Its also very informative and a very cool topic to explore. I just have one quick little question: what are some of the consequences for illegal printing? Is there any specific legal punishments for these so called "crimes" or do authorities simply take the illegal printings away from their creators?
ReplyDeleteHello. Even though it is sad that even 3D printing is being used in an illicit way. However, you need to praise how amazing 3D printing is. I know that they force a law to ban the creations of any illegal objects, but do you think that will solve the problem? What else do you think the government do to stop them from printing illegal objects? Do you think that will remove their right the be creative? Seriously, 3D printing is amazing. Cool blog!
ReplyDeleteHey Brian, I never really read about your blog topic so im very excited to learn about it. For example i never knew there was such thing as illegal printing till i read your blog. But I'd like to know what are some consequences of illegal printing. Will people end up in jail? I can't wait to read the rest of your blog Brian!
